Dreamcast Online
The Sega Dreamcast comes with "internet ready" software. This software requires an adult for installation and for billing preferences. Looking further into the situation, the Sega Network wasn't up and running at launch. It wasn't running until a few weeks after launch. The "online gaming" option that was so anticipated will not be available until the year 2000. These facts were unheard of until after launch. Although not being able to go online at launch would not have altered my purchasing decision, I still would have liked to be informed about this issue beforehand.

Chris Byrne feels that Sega is challenging Web TV by making the internet accessible through the Dreamcast. I think that Sega has the potential to become a competitor in the TV online area, aside from the videogame entertainment system area.

Solid Gameplay
The gameplay of Sega Dreamcast would not be as great without its great controller. This ergonomically enhanced controller fits right in your hands. The controller pad features the classic directional pad and also features an analog controller. The controller is very sensitive, which acts sometimes for and against the player. At times, the gamer may find him/herself jumping unexpectedly. Another cool fact about the controller is that it is compatible with the VMU (Visual Memory Unit). There is a viewing space in the center of the controller where the memory card screen can be seen. This is helpful because in some games, tips are given out on this screen which may give the gamer a more educated approach on fighting a boss or solving a complex puzzle.

Portable Memory Card
The VMU is an obvious leap in video gaming technology. This small unit fits right in the palm of your hand. Memory can be accessed away from the system along with games. Games for the VMU can be downloaded from the Dreamcast. For example, in Sonic the Hedgehog, there is a species called a Chao. One can download a Chao baby on VMU and access a special game away from home. This game plays in a similar way to the long-lived Tamagachi. After one takes care of Chao baby, they can upload the Chao back to the game. The VMU game option can also be used to upgrade (or bring up) a character's stats in some other games. A VMU can also be used to copy or trade information away from the Dreamcast console. This is made possible by the link connection.
