Sister
Act
by Dana Schuster
Nina Bueti and Polsia
Ryder are co-founders of the artist management company, The Jelly Baby Group.
They share many of the same interests, outlooks on life, similar heads of
dark, thick, hair with curls cascading past their shoulders. But most importantly,
they are sisters, whose closeness has surely surpassed the norm.
Not only have the two spent their entire childhood together (not without
the traditional sister rivalry), but they paired their minds as adults to
dream up an idea that would forever change their lives, and hopefully, they
thought, add a new dimension to the music industry.
Formed in 1998, The Jelly Baby Group has since gained a strong reputation
for specializing in pop music. With over 20 years of combined music experience
between Nina and Polsia, their knowledge and cunning edge over the industry
gave them a head start when they took the leap to start their own company.
With an 8 year career experience with BMG Entertainment, where she was eventually
promoted to Director of International Marketing in their New York headquarters,
Polsia joined Jive Records, where she was interim Vice President International.
The business-head in the partnership, Polsia nonetheless felt that an all
business relationship with the talent she was representing didn't make sense.
"After years of working in the corporate environment of a major entertainment
company, I personally wanted to change my focus. I was suddenly struck that
my motivation came from making people's dreams come true...I only wanted
to work on projects I loved, with people I loved," she added.
Nina, who brings different strengths to their business, also had a music
background that most girls would drop dead for. After seven years at Jive
Records, most recently, Manager of International, she worked exclusively
for The Backstreet Boys as their full-time tour manager and on-the-road
management representative. Nina stood by the boys, recognizing that at their
impressionable age, many people could take advantage of them. Having a trusted,
business savvy person on hand on the road to stardom has been something
that The Backstreet Boys really appreciated. When asked what it was like
to work with The Backstreet Boys, she said, "I was very real with them.
I told them the truth, and was always honest with them. The boys had a lot
of chemistry between one another, and they were all like brothers. But artists
such as they are, being young boys at the time, need to be treated like
young boys. That's just what I did." |
