"Fashion Grabbers":
The Styles of Fall/Winter 2000 Are Not for the Faint of Heart

by Dana Schuster

The phrase "back to school" can bring about an abundance of ideas ranging from from fall sports to the oh-so-dreaded homework. Most kids would prefer bathing in the summer sun forever than returning to school. Back to school shopping, however, always manages to put a smile on girls' faces.

This fall, shopping for clothes may not prove to be such an easy task. With five great new looks to choose from, compliments of Seventeen Magazine, teenage girls will be left with the baffling decision of picking out the ones they like best. During an interview with Sarah Meikle, Fashion Director of Seventeen, we were given the inside scoop about the hot new styles. Whether it be the "Disco Darling" look, complete with halter tops, strappy sandals, and tight sexy jeans, or the "Party Clasher," this fall is sure to be a season that will make any boy swoon.

Gold - and lots of it - pretty much sums up the appearance of "Disco Darling". Halter tops, tight sexy jeans, and big hoop earrings bring about reminiscences of the '70's yet they are updated for the new millennium. This new modern spin on a retro classic offers ultra-glam metallic open toed shoes, and Charlie's Angels sex-bomb dressing, altered to create a new sophisticated look that doesn't scream overkill.

"Party Clasher" is not for the light at heart. It includes bright attention-grabbing colors in an unexpected mix. Don't be afraid to pair a turquoise chunky cable knit turtleneck with a pair of red cropped pants. To compliment these daring ensembles, grab a pair of brightly hued tights that will close any outfit off with a bang.

The "Print-cess" is another style on Seventeen's top five style-circuit. Bold graphic designs and infamous Pucci-inspired prints will be popping up on everything from hair accessories to skirts. Abstract designs go hand-in-hand with graphic patterns, creating an intense look that is very fashion forward. At the heart of a Print-cess is the willingness to mix patterns from polka dots with stripes, to flowers coupled with checks.

Girls who love to show off their feminine side from time to time will find "Feminine Adrenaline" the answer to satisfy this urge. A take-off from the Prada runways, tie-neck tops and shoulder duster earrings which gently graze the shoulders, help to create this polished image. Floaty chiffon skirts and dresses falling just below the knee will complete this oh-so-pretty look.
