Finally, to all the
preps out there, "Plaid Mad" is the look for you. No schoolgirl inspired
look is complete without a variety of plaids in a wardrobe. Despite the
fact that this season there will be conventional reds and navy blues,
shoppers will also be able to apply a new modern look to that traditional
tartan sweater by trading in the more common colored plaids for new vibrant,
electric ones such as yellow and hot pink.
Fall fashion, according to Seventeen Magazine, doesn't stop at the feet.
This upcoming season, slip your toes into some of the newest variations
on the classic boot. Ones cut just below the ankle, in a variety of fabrics
and colors, such as animal prints and wool, promise to complete any outfit.
Patent leather versions of classic Mary-Janes should also be at the top
of your wish list. And, when you want to spruce up a simple skirt, a pair
of knee high books in black or deep red will surely make you the talk
of the party.
All of these hip looks don't have to put a strain on your wallet. Ms.
Meikle gave us some great tips on how to use past seasons' fashions from
your closet to create the look of the moment. "Fashion always has
a way of being accessible. By cutting off the waist of your jeans...reinventing
the basic white shirt with new buttons...or cutting off the sleeves of
an old sweatshirt and then adding a slit by the neck, you can create your
own style." She also recommended stores, such as Old Navy and H&M
(which recently opened up in New York City) for trendy clothes at affordable
prices.
And, catching the mode of the moment before the public doesn't have to
be a daunting task. If tickets to the up and coming fashion shows aren't
available to you, you can spot new fashion statements just by walking
through the streets of a city. Even prominent magazines, such as Seventeen,
often use street clothes as the very source of identifying new trends
which they feature in their publications.
So, as the school year draws closer and closer, keep in mind these five
hot looks. And, remember: don't be afraid to experiment with your old
clothes. You can create a one-of-a-kind original that will surely gain
you the honorary title of "fashion maven."
