TEENSPEAK: Coming from
West Virginia to the NFL, I would imagine that you will have a lot of changes
to make. What changes will you need to make to adapt to the Jets?
BECHT I come from Morning Town, West Virginia which is not a big city. I
am from outside Philadelphia and I have a big city type of upbringing, so
coming to New York, being so close to home, and my family who will be able
to come up and see me play the games - it worked out pretty good for me
and I am happy with the situation.
TEENSPEAK: What is it like coming to a team like the Jets who have been
so strong in the past years?
BECHT: It's a great opportunity - they got banged up a little bit last year
. Everyone's helping. I am coming into a year where the team wants to win
and I am happy to be a part of it, and I am going to try my best to help
out the team in any way possible.
TEENSPEAK: What aspects of your game do you see as your strongest?
BECHT: As a tight end, there are a lot of guys that just catch the ball
and can't block, and guys who can block but can't catch. I feel I can do
both - I can bring a passing game and can stay in and go long- I can stay
in the game in all situations whether it be splitting out or catching, or
whatever they give me.
TEENSPEAK: Losing Keyshawn Johnson leaves a big gap for the Jets at the
receiving position. How will you help to fill that?
BECHT: Basically I am just going to try to be my own person. I am going
to go out there and run good routes, and you know, try and take some pressure
off some of the receivers with some of the middle routes, and try to catch
some balls. You know I am trying to help the team in any way I can, and
with Keyshawn in, or with Keyshawn out, the team moves on.
TEENSPEAK: Are the new patterns really hard to learn?
BECHT: They are generally the same as they were in college. There may be
a few added, here and there, moving around, and motioning in the line stuff.
But most of the runs I run, I've done in college, so it was pretty good
coming in. At least running the routes in college, I had the experience
to do what I need to do here. |
