At the beginning of the twenty first century, Ruby Bridges has taken it upon herself to warn children about the cruelty of racism which, she contends, still lingers today. As she explains, "Racism comes in all colors, and today you cannot look at a person and tell if he or she is a racist." She also shares her belief that, "It's adults that keep racism alive. We as children are not born hating someone because of the color their skin."

Mrs. Bridges also understands that "It's really hard to stand up for what you believe in, for what is right; especially if you are alone." However, it is the only way to create positive changes, and even history. The beginning of an historical change occured on that morning in November when Ruby went to school. That moment has been chronicled in art, in the famous Norman Rockwell painting of Ruby Bridges being escorted by 4 federal marshals, in history books, and now her courage is recounted here in hopes that respect and caring can replace hatred and racism.
