Michael defended his
World Championship in 1995 and became the youngest driver to win two consecutive
years. He then signed a contract with Ferrari hoping to bring them a World
Championship. He narrowly missed the title in97 and 98 in
the last race of each season. The final of 1997 was lost after Michael
accidentally bumped into Jacques Villeneuve. In 99, he received
a double fracture in his right leg after an accident at Silverstone. Because
of his injury, he was forced to withdraw from racing for six Grand Prixs.
In 2000, Michael took home another World Championship. This time it was
with Ferrari.
As the 2001 season
approach-es, Michael will again join the ranks of the best and strive
for yet another World Title. In a recent interview, Michael explained
his driving experiences with TeenSpeak.
TeenSpeak:
What inspired you to enter this sports arena what motivated you
what circumstances or events convinced you that this was your path
in life?
Schumacher:
Honestly, I became a Formula 1 driver by chance. I never wanted to be
a F1 driver, as when I was a child, it was simply out of reach. I was
karting since I was four years old. I loved to drive around corners in
a drift, and if I really wanted to become anything, then it was a kart-driver.
But even that seemed out of reach.
TeenSpeak:
Why did you choose Formula 1 over other forms of motor racing?
Schumacher:
As I said, it was no real choice. I just happened to be there as I was
lucky to have people around me who believed I could do it. When I finally
had the chance to get that Jordan-Cockpit in Spa 1991, I took a chance.
TeenSpeak:
What does it feel like to be driving that fast? Is there a comparable
activity that a teen can do?
Schumacher:
I am very bad in explaining that sensation. I am used to it since I was
a child. Concerning the pure feeling of speed, you could maybe do downhill
skiing. But, still its different.
TeenSpeak:
What do you consider to be your most important accomplishment?
Schumacher:
In terms of driving, no doubt the world championship with Ferrari. That
stands above all. In terms of my life, no doubt my family. To be happy
with my wife and our children is the best I ever achieved.
