Jesse Ventura:
Always True To Himself
by Jordan Mamorsky
Jesse Ventura may be headstrong and brash,
but he certainly fights for what he believes in. Ventura has proven time
and again that he can accomplish anything that he sets his very strong
mind to. Armed with the courage to stand up for what he believes is right,
even in the face of adversity, Jesse Ventura entered politics fighting
to prevent big business from developing his hometown of Brooklyn Park.
"We were an older neighborhood and we had very rural ditches to collect
the water that filtered naturally into the ground. Politicians were catering
to developers who wanted to give us all curb, gutter and storm sewers.
They had no place to pump this water except into our wetland. Fifty of
us signed a petition stating that this wasnt acceptable. We were
voted down seven to nothing." Steeped with rage, Ventura then proceeded
to map his plans to become Mayor of his hometown in order to correct the
political system.
Nobody pulls this mans strings. He
cant be bought, and even if his constituency in the state of Minnesota
doesnt agree with his positions on issues, they nonetheless know
that his decisions are his decisions. "I dont accept any special
interest money...so there is no political pay-off or pay-back. People
may disagree with me, but they will know that its my decision and
that there isnt anyone behind the scenes making decisions for me.
Deeply believing in the task at hand, whether it was his experience as
a navy seal, a pro-wrestler, or as the Governor of the state of Minnesota
with a 71% approval rating amongst his constituents, Jesse Ventura has
consistently demonstrated that he strives to do things to the very best
of his ability.
Why has he been so successful? Guided by
honesty and integrity, Jesse Ventura is a big advocate of freedom. He
is quick, however, to remind people, that with the pleasures of freedom
comes responsibility, accountability and self reliance. Parents who dont
tend to the needs of their children enough, or the citizen who is too
reliant on the government, needs to learn that this Minnesota Governor
believes that each individual should be accountable for their behavior
and actions, and that government is not a babysitter.
Ventura challenges young people to become
politically active in a third party. Our "democratic" government,
which essentially allows only two parties to be heard, needs fresh ideas.
Young people, he contends, need to learn to express their political views.
"I challenge young people today to join the third party."

"We have made government
the most important entity in America rather than individuals and freedom."
